Sessions
The training schedule includes sessions for different levels and goals. Here's a brief look at what each session name means.
- Technique
- Coached technique sessions with rotating themes. Open to anyone who has completed the beginner course, regardless of level.
- Sparring
- Sparring brings the techniques you've learned into real situations: you grapple more freely with a training partner, and find out what works in your game and what still needs work. Participation requires the beginner course or equivalent grappling experience.
- Fundamentals
- Focuses on fundamental techniques and key positions that form the foundation of the sport. Open to all levels, whether you're just starting out or an experienced practitioner.
- Competition team
- Training for competitors and people interested in competing. Sessions focus on competition scenarios and developing each athlete's personal techniques.
- Stand-up grappling
- Stand-up sessions focus on takedowns, throws, and wrestling from standing under no-gi rules. Unlike freestyle wrestling, no-gi also allows chokes and other submissions, which shapes the techniques and tactics of the standing game.
- Morning and day sessions
- Morning and day sessions typically include a small amount of sparring, with the main focus on practicing new techniques and ideas. The smaller group size lets coaches adapt the session to the group's needs.
- Q&A
- A coach-led Q&A on technique and training before Open Mat. A good moment to revisit techniques covered during the week.
- Open mat
- During open mat you can review techniques, spar, or do mobility and recovery work on your own. People from other gyms are welcome at the Focus Open Mat too.
