Who is the course for?
The beginner course is designed for complete beginners. We train without the gi, but the fundamentals carry straight over to gi BJJ as well. No previous martial arts background is needed. Most participants start from zero.
The course is open to everyone born in 2011 or earlier. There is no upper age limit, and you can join at any fitness level. Conditioning comes with training.
What will you learn?
You'll learn the fundamentals of no-gi BJJ: body movement, basic techniques, safe training habits and working with a partner. Classes are coached and progress at a beginner-friendly pace, and you won't be thrown into hard sparring.
After the first week you can also join the basic technique classes, and once the course ends, all of the gym's coached gi and no-gi classes are open to you.
Where do we train?
We train at the Focus Grappling Academy gym at Postikatu 3, Turku. There is plenty of parking, and bus lines 20, 201 and 203 stop close to the gym.
What should you bring to your first class?
We train without the gi, so you won't need one or any other special equipment. Comfortable training clothes without zippers or pockets, a water bottle and a towel are enough. We recommend getting a mouthguard soon.
Remember to trim your nails and remove jewellery before training.
